On-point: Pyongyang, Moscow further solidify their partnership; Putin to visit North Korea soon?

남북, ’강대강’ 대치 푸틴, 북한 언제 가나? Pyongyang and Moscow once again solidified their bilateral relations through a visit to Moscow by the North’s top diplomat Choe Son-hui. Let’s discuss more about the significance of the trip. We’re joined by Professor Park Won-gon this morning. Welcome back. 1. During Choe’s visit, there was no official mention on discussions on Putin’s possible visit to Pyongyang. But it’s highly likely that they did. What would Putin’s visit to the North signify? Another level-up in Pyongyang-Moscow relations? 2. The visit came as North Korean leader Kim Jong-un threatened to name South Korea as the regime’s number one hostile country in its Constitution. The North is also getting rid of its agencies that have handled inter-Korean dialogue and cooperation. Are these big deals? What is North Korea thinking? 3. It looks like much of the world’s attention is not on North Korea because of other significant events around the world like the war in Gaza, which may be the reason for the North’s provocative words and actions. Will Pyongyang keep this kind of stance or strategy throughout the year, as we move towards the U.S. November presidential election? 4. A former chief U.S. nuclear negotiator Robert Gallucci has even voiced concerns that a nuclear war could break out in Northeast Asia in 2024. Should we really be concerned? 5. It’s not official but widely believed that the North has nukes. South Korea, the U.S., and Japan are warning that the more provocations from the North, the stronger the trilateral cooperation will be. How can South Korea and its allies really counter growing threats from the North? In realistic ways. More drills? Thank you for joining us. Have a good day. #inter_Korean_elations #NorthKorea #Vladimir_Putin #Korean_Peninsula #Pyongyang_Moscow_relations #KimJongun #NorthKorea_Russia_relations #남북관계 #북한 #푸틴 #Arirang_News #아리랑뉴스 📣 Facebook : 📣 Twitter : 📣 Homepage : 2024-01-18, 09:00 (KST)
