On-point: North Korea claims to have developed new shells for its multiple rocket launchers

北, 수도권 겨냥 240㎜ 방사포 시험 발사 사거리•정밀도 개선 North Korea claimed over the weekend that it has succeeded in developing a new controllable shell and ballistic control system for its multiple rocket launchers. Is the Korean Peninsula at risk of war? We’re joined by Dr. Mark Barry. Welcome back. 1. It is the first time the North announced the test and development of 240 mm-caliber controllable multiple rocket launcher shells. Why is the North making the progress public? 2. There is speculation that the North is looking to export the 240 mm-caliber controllable multiple rocket launcher shells to Russia. Is that so? How likely is that case? 3. Then is North Korea headed for war in 2024? Especially based on the two Jan. 11 op-eds by Carlin & Hecker, and also by former U.S. ambassador Gallucci. We’ve discussed this issue multiple times here on On-point but we would love to hear your take on this. 4. In the meantime, U.S. Secretary of Defense Austin is back in hospital again, with even more complications from his December surgery. I’m sure that’s a huge concern for President Biden with two wars raging for which Washington provides arms, isn’t it? 5. I’d like to touch on Seoul’s Unification Minister Kim Young-ho’s remark that South Korea would share data on Japanese abductees with Tokyo. How much of a big deal is it, considering it is the main issue preventing Japan from making progress in diplomatic ties with Pyongyang? Thanks so much for your insight, Dr. Barry. We appreciate it. #KimJongun #NorthKorea #security_threat #Korean_Peninsula #military_provocation #inter_Korean_relations #북한 #군사도발 #안보위협 #Arirang_News #아리랑뉴스 📣 Facebook : 📣 Twitter : 📣 Homepage : 2024-02-13, 09:00 (KST)
