On-point: Why North Korea is yet to comment on S. Korea-Cuba ties

한•쿠바 수교에 노코멘트 北, 러시아와 더 밀착? North Korea is yet to comment on South Korea and Cuba’s announcement over the forging of official diplomatic ties. But it’s continuing to bring Russia closer to its diplomatic circle. We turn to Stephen Noerper this morning. Welcome back. 1. No commentary from the North on South Korea-Cuba ties. Why do you think the reason is? 2. In the meantime, the North’s Rodong Shinmun over the weekend reported its delegation’s visit to Russia for an international conference there in detail. This is the North’s way of showing off its close ties with Russia, isn’t it? 3. Kim Jong-un’s sister Kim Yo-jong said a summit between Pyongyang and Tokyo can be on the table under certain conditions. How likely is it to actually happen? Will South Korea let Japan do that? 4. Trilateral cooperation between South Korea, the U.S., and Japan is only growing stronger, while North Korea, Russia and China appear to be struggling to do the same. Is that so? Is North Korea in trouble when it comes to managing diplomatic ties? 5. Also over the weekend, the leader Kim Jong-un also appears to have skipped a visit to a mausoleum for his late father, Kim Jong-il, for yet another year on the occasion of what would have been his 82nd birthday. What do you think the reason is? Thank you as always for your insight.
