Chemnitz “German؛ Chemnitz” is a city in the state of Saxony, Germany, with a population of about 241,210 “according to 2012 statistics” the third largest city in the state after Dresden and Leipzig. This city was called “Karl Marx City“ {German: Karl-Marx-Stadt} during the communist regime (1953-1990) in East Germany. Chemnitz was one of the important industrial cities of Germany from the beginning of the 19th century until the end of World War II. During the Second World War, this city was one of the important centers for the production of weapons for the Nazi German army, and therefore it was subjected to heavy aerial bombardment by the Allied forces, and as a result, it almost lost its industrial importance during the period of the German Democratic Republic.
