Overlooked by a limestone cliff studded with troglodyte caves, surrounded by green hills, lavender fields and vineyards, you would be hard pressed to imagine a more typical Provençal destination. Cotignac is just over an hour’s drive from the beautiful beaches of the Côte d’Azur to the south, and less than an hour’s drive from the Verdon National Park to the north, with the stunning lake of Sainte Croix du Verdon, a paradise for water sports. Le Rocher and its troglodyte dwellings The tuff cliff of Cotignac, which everyone here calls Le Rocher, is 80 meters high and extends over 400 meters. It is the imprint of the bed of the Cassole river, diverted by man, which flows today to the east of the village. But the rock is also testimony to the existence of a troglodyte habitat that can still be visited. Some current dwellings are still imbricated in the rock. Cotignac is the Saint-Tropez of Provence Verte & Verdon. Apart from the animation guaranteed on its course, these small picturesque streets offer a shelter of choice to many shops, especially decoration, where it is good to stroll to unearth the “must have“. When you come to Cotignac, it is essential to take the time to visit its artists and artisans. A workshop that appears at the bend of an alley or a naïve painting gallery housed in an original setting: a restaurant! It’s up to you to walk through the center of the village, all your senses awake and don’t hesitate to push the doors, some hide wonders. #Cotignac #France #Provence #travel #frenchvillage #medievalvillage #BeautifulVillage
