慶長年間(16世紀末)朝鮮人陶工によって開窯され、その後平戸藩御用窯として栄えた。良質の天草陶石にコバルト色の呉須下絵を染付けた磁気で、中でも唐風俗の童児数人が遊ぶ様子を描いた「唐子絵」は有名。 Mikawachi-yaki, which was initiated by potters brought in from Korea at the end of the 16th century, is largely known for its exquisite blue-and-white sometsuke in gosu (natural cobalt). The most typical design is “karako“ or children in Chinese costumes. Mikawachi-yaki flourished under the patronage of the Hirato clan, and was produced as gifts to emperors and shoguns.
