伊勢形紙の歴史は古く、その始まりについては、色々な説があります。室町時代の絵師が「職人尽絵（しょくにんずくしえ）」に形紙を使う染職人を描いているところから、室町時代末期には形紙があったと考えられます。 伊勢形紙は友禅、浴衣、小紋等の柄や文様を、着物の生地に染めるために用いる伝統的工芸用具です。 The history of Ise paper stencils can be traced to at least the end of the Muromachi era (1392-1573), when an artist named Kano Yoshinobu made a painting of a person using such a stencil.
