Spectacled Flying-Fox at Tolga Bat Hospital: this is Funny Face

Funny Face is an adult female Spectacled Flying-Fox who was rescued as a juvenile. She had cleft lip and a tiny defect/hole in her palate. Nobody is sure if this is an injury or a birth defect. She has a slightly misaligned jaw, which is foreshortened; she also has noticeably poppy eyes (exophthalmos). We’re not sure how she survived so long in the wild if she had a birth defect, but she came into care as a juvenile. In care, she’s managing quite well - except you can see she snorts the smoothie out her nose. She never seems to breathe it in or get aspiration pneumonia, but unless she’s separated permanently from the other bats, she is always going to have access to their food, and she chooses to eat the smoothie. She is given a supplement which is special and just for her - but she still chooses to slurp the smoothie. She is a happy member of the aviary and is doing well. She has found her fur-ever home at Tolga Bat Hospital.
