Reinecke plays Haydn ~ E Flat Sonata : 52 ~ Movt. III Presto ~ Hupfeld recording 1905

This is as far back as we can go with any recording of Haydn’s piano works. This piano roll was made around 1905 by the pianist and composer Carl Reinecke who was was born in 1824, only fifteen years after the death of Haydn. One can assume that during Reinecke’s lifetime his performance style did not change that much, so possibly what we hear is much as Haydn himself would have been familiar with. Interesting to note that the picture of Reinecke shows him seated at a Bluthner grand, not only was it the same type of piano used to make the original recording, but also that which is heard here.
