CEAIT History with Mark Coniglio

On the penultimate day of October Mark Coniglio, (Technical Assistant at CEAIT & Teaching Faculty at CalArts in 1990-94), brings us to the very core of the art & technology nexus in the early days of the Center for Experiments in Art, Information, and Technology. The layout of questions: 1) Could you tell a little bit about the period preceding @calartsofficial and what informed the decision to enroll? 2) How did creative chemistry between you and Dawn Stoppiello emerge? Did you first have an idea of MidiDancer and then find the one who would be interested in testing it? Or did you come up with the idea because of working with Dawn? 3) After graduating in 1989, was your primary affiliation with CalArts via CEAIT? 4) Do you remember any details about the ’92 presentation at the Computer Music Conference? How the CEAIT Report was received? 5) Why did the musical software that you and Morton Subotnick came up with (Interactor) never converge with the compositional software of @DavidRosenboom (HMSL)? I could imagine the three of you coming up with a hybrid at some point. 6) After you left Valencia and moved to New York (1994), did you participate in any events associated with CEAIT? 7) In your view, how successful the project was, if we think of what was manifested as a program in 1992 and what was actually realized? 8) How you would describe the role of Kit Galloway and Sherrie Rabinowitz (Electronic Cafe International) in the history of CEAIT? 9) Could you recall details of the “Rolywholyover A Circus“ (1993) opening at @MOCA ? A listener would find this conversation to be rich in details, very dense, and inspiring. Thanks to ample knowledge of Mark delivered with energy and precision. More to come! ____________________ About the research project
