Ostia Antica: A Trip to Ancient Times

The first colony and seaport of ancient city-state Rome, Ostia’s population boomed to well over 100,000 inhabitants by the 1st century AD. As we witness during the Sulla’s Civil War in the early-1st century BC, it was this city for any invading army to get to the heart of the empire. Many Roman army garrisons were in and out of the city to be shipped out to the frontiers or to other colonies (and also to defend the capital city Rome of course).
