On the soundtrack we hear thuds - it’s the sound of the air pump, not the fireman’s heart. He brings the man to the surface. In Grecca (sp? Greppa? Greta?), Australia, we see several shots of a smouldering fire that has been burning for over a year. The source of the fire is thought to be a disused coal mine beneath the town. Nearby we see smouldering ashes on a hill known as ’Burning Mountain’ - this fire is also coming from a coal field beneath the earth. A man turns over ashes with a stick. Huge clouds of smoke billow into the air. In Oregon, United States of America, we see brief shots of a group of unemployed men fishing for salmon on the Columbia River.
