Highway blockades in Peru turn violent: civilians wounded, police beaten

Recent Peru protest against soaring crime levels turned violent, leaving civilians and police injured. Demonstrators blocking a highway clashed with riot police, who fired tear gas and were met with burning tires and vehicles. Three civilians were shot at, and two police officers were beaten.
