AVPU Scale - Assessing Level of Consciousness (Alert, Voice, Pain, Unresponsive)

Assessing the level of consciousness in a patient can be done quickly and easily using the AVPU scale. Alert, Voice, Pain and Unresponsive are the four elements of this assessment. This is not as detailed as the Glasgow Coma Scale, but it was not designed to be. It is designed to be a rapid assessment tool to be used by a range of healthcare professionals, as well as first-aiders and first responders.
