Mulder Mouse Pounce

Even at a young age, red foxes instinctually begin practicing their “mouse pounce” hunting behavior. As adults, they can leap up to 7 feet vertically and 11 feet horizontally to pounce on small rodents. Recently, it’s been found that red foxes use the earth’s magnetic field to determine the arc of their pounce. When pouncing in a northeastern direction, they’re about 70% successful whereas any other direction is usually less than 20% successful.
