Astronomers used Hubble’s Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph to observe the auroras above Saturn’s north pole region at 24 occasions spread over 7 months in 2017 during northern solstice, when the northern auroral region was both fully visible from Earth and permanently illuminated by the Sun. In contrast to the auroras on Earth the auroras on Saturn are only visible in the ultraviolet.
