Broadway Bares at Life Ball 2019

At the 26th (and final) Life Ball in Vienna, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, a Life Ball charitable beneficiary, presented a taste of Broadway Bares, one Broadway Cares’ signature annual events. In a performance created specifically for Life Ball, a company of 13 dancers offered a unique, circus-inspired modern-day burlesque number. The piece was choreographed by Broadway Bares co-executive producer Nick Kenkel and introduced by Tony Award winner Billy Porter, who’s currently starring in TV’s Pose. Broadway Bares was created by Tony-winning director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell as a way to raise money to help those diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. In its first year in 1992, Mitchell and seven of his friends danced on a New York City bar and raised $8,000. This year’s version, Broadway Bares: Take Off, raised $2 million in two performances on June 16, 2019. To date, Broadway Bares has now raised $21.2 million for Broadway Cares and those in need.
