Eamonn Andrews - The Shifting Whispering Sands (1956)

Eamonn Andrews, CBE (19 December 1922 -- 5 November 1987), was an Irish radio and television presenter, based from 1950 in the United Kingdom. From 1960 to 1964 he chaired the Radio Éireann Authority (now the RTÉ Authority), responsible for the introduction of State television to Ireland. Better known as a TV presenter, including two long stints presenting ’This is Your Life’ (1955-1964 and 1969 to 1987). After the inexplicable popularity of his talking record ’Shifting Whispering Sands’ in 1956 (it got to Number 18 in the British charts), Eamonn followed it up with two others in 1957; ’High Wind’ backed with ’The Legend of Wyatt Earp’ and ’The Ship That Never Sailed’ back with ’The Magic Tree’, which, like many records of this cross-over period, were available on both 78rpm and the new 45rpm single.
