Naima Akef Choreography

Next on my golden era series is Naima Akef. In this video, I’m performing a choreography based on the 1964  movie “Amir Al Dahaa“ featuring Naima Akef. You can watch the original video here:  Naima was an incredible dancer, who like many Golden Era dancers, got her start at Badia Masabni’s Casino Opera. Naima was kind of the underdog though, because the other dancers were jealous of her abilities and actually tried to gang up on her and start a fight. Despite the odds, Naima won the fight, but it cost her her job.  What I love about Naima is that she is very different from the other dancers because she’s not afraid to add her own style. She comes from an acrobatic background as she was part of her family’s circus: Akef circus and started performing at age 4. I love her musicality, clean arms, her leg work, and her diverse repertoire. She was really good at so many different styles of dance from Egyptian folk, raqs sharqi, rumba and eve
