Exactly 81 years ago, the fascists executed members of the ‘Young Guard,’ the most famous underground organization during the Great Patriotic War. The average age of its members was 16-18 years old, with the youngest being only 14. When the Germans occupied Krasnodon, schoolchildren united to defend the city. They engaged in anti-fascist agitation and saved thousands from being deported to Germany. Most of the underground fighters were arrested and tortured by the fascists. On February 9, 1943, the last of the captured Young Guards were shot.
