Clergy Conference (1961)

Bognor Regis, West Sussex. M/S of a colourful kind of miniature train (the sort you see Noddy driving in Toy Town) arriving at Butlin’s Holiday Camp, carrying several clergymen from the diocese of Southwark and their luggage; commentator says “The scene is a big, gay holiday camp“ ...mmm! M/S of a sign post pointing to numerous attractions on the camp. The clergymen are shown to their chalets (nice, though brief shots, and a rare glimpse - you don’t often get to see the chalets in these Butlins stories). M/S of the Bishop of Southwark, Dr Mervyn Stockwood, in his vestments and carrying his mitre as he collects his newspaper from a vendor outside a Butlins store on the way to the morning service. Various shots as conference attendees watch a demonstration of a new way of leading the service; it looks much the same as the old way to me.
