NASA NEUTRAL BUOYANCY TANK SPACESUIT MOBILITY TESTS SKYLAB OR APOLLO PROGRAM XD46784

Want to support this channel and help us preserve old films? Visit Visit our website Dating to the Apollo era, and probably the lead up to Skylab, this silent NASA footage shows a test subject in the neutral buoyancy tank. The test subject wears a spacesuit and attempts to maneuver through a simulated environment unassisted. At 3:46, the test subject performs a retrieval task, opening a container, removing items and placing them on the next “level“ of the environment. The spacesuit shown in use might be a Gemini design. Tests such as these were critical in assessing the ability of astronauts to move in spacecraft (and later space stations) while in spacesuits.
