1917 Japanese Kendo Versus Bayonet (Fencing) -Mediterranean Sea

Film Release Date: September 1917 Location: On board a Japanese naval vessel docked in a Mediterranean Sea port. The film shows 3 bouts of sparring. Two bouts are the practice of bayonet against kendo shinai, and one bout is the practice of bayonet against practice bayonet. In accordance with the Anglo-Japanese Alliance, the Imperial Japanese Navy supplied a fleet of ships to help, defend Allied shipping in the Mediterranean theater of operations during World War I. This occurred from 10 February 1917 – 2 July 1919. This film was shot on board one of those ships in the fleet.
