Flying-fox rescued after a raptor attack: this is Hawkeye

Hawkeye is a young adult male Black Flying-Fox whoops attacked and dropped by a raptor (bird of prey), probably a sea eagle, but maybe a hawk. He was put on an IV by Mandi, and started on antibiotics. Raptor claws have horrible bacteria, and their sharp claws inject the bacteria under the skin of their victim; if they don’t kill the victim outright, the bat will die later from infection. As you can see, in the beginning he is quite squidgy and miserable. I have put up a warning screen before a video clip of some maggots crawling around in his wound. Once you see the warning screen, skip to around 56 seconds to miss out on this clip if you’re squeamish. Then you get to see him a little better, and Mandi massaging his membrane and damaged areas with pawpaw and vitamin E ointment, which is important to help healing of the damaged membrane and maximise his chance of survival. Let’s see how he goes, but it’s looking good at this stage. Go Hawkeye! KOKO
