Carl Wayne & Penny Lane - Walk Right In (1972)

All Star Comedy Carnival / Lunchtime With Wogan Carl Wayne was an English singer and actor. He is best remembered as the lead singer of The Move in the 1960s. This clip, broadcast on Christmas Day in 1972, is taken from an ITV Christmas special called “All Star Comedy Carnival.“ ITV’s All Star Comedy Carnival was an annual Christmas special that featured new mini-episodes of popular British sitcoms and light entertainment programs with some musical interludes. The show was broadcast annually on 25 December on ITV from 1969 to 1973. This clip featuring Carl and Penny is from the “Lunchtime With Wogan“ segment. All 44 episodes of “Lunchtime With Wogan“ are missing and believed lost, only the Christmas Special segment survives. In 1973, Carl Wayne recorded three songs with ELO: Your World (Take 2), Get A Hold Of Myself (Take 2), and Mama (Take 1). These songs were released as bonus tracks on the 2003 expanded 30th Anniversary edition of Electric Light Orchestra’s second album, ELO 2. In 1982, Wayne covered ELO’s “Midnight Blue“ for the B-side of his 7-inch single “Deeper Than Love.“ It was later released on the “Carl Wayne - Songs From The Wood And Beyond 1973–2003“ CD (2006). Wayne covered ELO’s “Stepin’ Out“ on the 2001 Jeff Lynne tribute album, “Lynne Me Your Ears: A Tribute to the Music of Jeff Lynne.“ In 1977, Wayne took part in the “Song for Europe“ contest, hoping to represent the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest. His song, “A Little Give, A Little Take,“ finished in 11th place out of twelve songs. Wayne was married to former Crossroads actress Sue Hanson, and he also appeared in episodes of Crossroads. Wayne will also be fondly remembered by younger viewers as Odd Job John in “Emu’s All Live Pink Windmill Show“ and “Emu’s Wide World“ TV shows. With a name inspired by the fab four, Penny Lane has been gracing TV screens across Britain, from “Sunday Night at the London Palladium“ to the “Des O’Connor Show“ and presenting 43 episodes of “Lunchtime“ with Terry Wogan. Lane has written songs with and for Gloria Gaynor and Billy Ocean and has worked onstage with Charles Aznavour, Cliff Richard, Johnny Mathis, and Tony Bennett. #carlwayne #themove
