Sinking Exercise during RIMPAC 2022

Military personnel from Australia, Canada, Malaysia, and the United States participating in Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2022 fired on and sank the decommissioned ex-USS Rodney M. Davis on July 12 as part of a sinking exercise to practise tactics, targeting, and live firing against a surface target at sea. RIMPAC is taking place in and near the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California from June 29 to August 4 with participation from 26 countries, 38 ships, four submarines, more than 170 aircraft, and 25,000 personnel. RIMPAC, the largest international maritime exercise in the world, offers a one-of-a-kind training opportunity while encouraging and maintaining cooperative relationships among participants that are essential to maintaining the security on the world’s oceans and the safety of shipping channels.
