Full title reads: “Bale (sic). The Balloonists’ ’Derby’. To accompaniment of their National Anthems, 16 contestants - for the Gordon Bennett Cup - set off on the great hazard. Basle, Switzerland. Lots of hot air balloons gather before a race. As the Marseilles plays the French balloon goes past. Amongst the crowd are lots of soldiers who appear to be wearing German style uniforms. As the camera follows one of the rising balloons, the balloonist appears to stand out of the gondola to wave. Another balloon rises up slowly. Another balloon rises up as ’God Save The Queen’ is played. More shots of the crowd and other balloons rising from the ground. A balloon advertising ’Goodyear’ rises into the sky.
