Kalinga Narthana Thillana- Kuchipudi Ragam: Gambeera Naatai Talam: Adi Composer: Oothukkadu Venkata Kavi “Kalinga narthana” literally means “Kalinga dance” in Sanskrit, and it refers to a popular mythological story in which God Krishna, as a young boy, danced on the hood of serpent Kaliya (aka Kalinga). The composer has brilliantly worded and set to music in a way that it sounds like a whole bunch of sound effects strung together. Choreographed by Guru Smt. Sathyapriya Ramana Filmed by Vijay & Pranay Shot in the winter months: December and January, it was an extremely challenging task to dance and smile in numbing weather and more so difficult to dance barefoot on a bed of iced leaves. Nevertheless, I was able to pull this off only because of my sheer love for Kuchipudi. Don’t ask me why we had to shoot outdoors in Winter.
