Viking Hiking in Asturias (Ep. 1) | Making a Haithabu Bag | Winter Viking in Spain

My wife is from Asturias, a region in the north of Spain. We go there with the kids in our holidays and spend our time in the nature and with family. This time I decided to bring a simple viking outfit and a travel friendly part of my recording gear and make a little film. This video is filmed during family outings to some our favourite places around my wifes home town and therefore the scenery is changing quiet a bit throughout the video. I brought with me a few knifes and simple sewing kit, some leather scraps and pieces of Ash wood. I carried it with me and during this holliday I made a loose interpretation of a viking bag with wooden handles from Haithabu only with 1 needle, various scraps of thread, leather (cow and fish) and 2 small carving knifes - all on the go and in the wild. From the Viking age town of Haithabu (Hedeby) in the north og Germany wooden handles similar to the ones in this video is found in different size and forms. The general interpretation for reenactment purpose is that they were handles for bags maybe of fabric or leather. This is only speculation and to my knowledge the only material found in relation to the handles is some woven threads in a fishnet manner or style. The danish word is sprangen. I have truly enjoyed having the opportunity to do some viking crafts and living in Asturias and Im looking forward to show you this mesmerising place. My wife bought me a gimbal for my camera for christmas, so this video is also my journey in getting to know the features and possibilities with the device. The camera movements and editing effects might be a little overdone in this video - but a result of my learning curve. I plan to continue going viking in Asturias in the holidays and the idea is to slowly build up a decent kit for light hiking in the North of Spain and show you the proces. I hope you enjoy the video and please feel free to ask questions in the comments below and let me know what you think of the video, the landscape, the kit and gear, my idea of building a kit for Spain and have you ever been to Asturias?
