Unicef spokesperson James Elder: ‘Adolescents in Gaza wish to be killed to end their nightmare’

While addressing the UN from Rafah on Tuesday, Unicef spokesperson James Elder described the situation in Gaza by saying that sleeping at night feels like “lying in a coffin” and that adolescents and teenage girls say they “hope to be killed” to “end their nightmare”. Elder further emphasised that the the imminent famine in the north of Gaza is “man-made” and caused by restrictions imposed by Israel, and that Unrwa would be able to turn the humanitarian crisis around “in a matter of days” if it were allowed to use one of the old crossings in the north.
