Sergei Dreznin plays Funerailles by Franz Liszt

In October 1849 Hungarian revolution agains Hupsburg rule was supressed, it’s leaders -- Hungarian nobles, Liszt’s close friends -- were executed. “Funerailles“ was Liszt’s political statement. But today, in 2023, this piece still is a political statement, just like in 1849. Suppression, destruction, execution -- these triumvirate reigns on a battlefield and across societies. Therefore this piece, or better to say, a tone poem has to be painted in sounds like a Freedom on the Barricades by Egene Delacroix, and it needs his colors. Our barricade is piano, and one should have courage to expose himself being there!
