Remembrance:Bowed Bazantar

This composition, “Remembrance“ is part of a series of pieces I recently recorded, based on “Lahja“ a work from “The Picasso Tunings“. I’ve, at times, described my approach to composition as similar to those of whales. Humpback whales to be specific, in that they evolve gradually, changing over time, as these whales’ seasonal song cycles do. Each year they sing the song they sang the previous season, though not exactly. Over time these songs evolve becoming something new and distinct. Though the changes with each rendition are small they are a reflection of the performers’ life and will over time completely transform the composition. This is how the music I compose for the Bazantar works. This piece, the previous post and a third I’ve yet to post, are all closely related, though distinctly and subtly different.
