There are foam plugs, which are lightweight and easy to fit but in my experience do not work particularly well and soon get scruffy and need to be discarded. There are wax plugs that have to be pushed firmly into the ear conforming to the shape of the ear, and these do work well but soon become dirty, misshapen and need to be replaced. The final type, such as these on test today, are made from lightweight silicone and in my experience work better than the foam ones but not as well as the wax but are long lasting and hygienic.
