On St. Patrick’s Day. in the morning - every officer and man of the Irish Guards receives his spring of Ireland’s emblem - ’that comes from the hills and the vales and the mirelands’.“ Aldershot, Hampshire. Soldiers of the Irish Guards regiment are presented with shamrocks by a woman, presumably the Princess Royal, Princess Mary.
