1979 Playoffs Rangers at Islanders game 1 semi-finals

After defeating the Kings and the Flyers, the NY Rangers took on their arch rivals, the Islanders, in the 1979 Stanley Cup playoff Semi-Finals. This series is still remembered as one of the best ones ever by long time Ranger fans, matching the 1994 Devils and Canucks series for overall intensity. Although the Islanders had only been in the NHL for seven years in ’79, the rivalry was cemented back in 1975 when they upset the Rangers in their first playoff appearance ever. The Rangers would get their revenge this time, winning this series in six games. Game one starts with the Islanders playing well at first, but the Rangers would take control and end up dominating the game, taking a 4-1 lead after two periods, and out shooting the Isles 28-11! The final score was 4-1. This is the Ranger broadcast. Shown are the complete 1st and 2nd periods. Sorry, no third period, something goes wrong when I try to upload it. The audio and video were very badly out of sync. All copyrights reserv
