Sphaericthys vaillanti also known as the Samurai Gourami or Vailant’s Gourami. # Distribution: Spaericthys vaillanti is endemic to Kalimantan Island, Indonesia. Most of the species is collected from Sentarum Lake system, West Kalimantan. The lake itself is located on the upper stream of Kapuas River. # Habitat: Peat swamps on forested area with black water. The water is very soft water due to high amount of leaves litter and organic debris. Just like typical black water species, this species needs dim lighted tank with a lot of hiding places. # Water parameter: pH: TDS: 50-100 ppm Temperature: 26-28°C # Max length: 5 cm Usual size on trade: 4-5 cm # Characteristic: Slow moving and peaceful fish that will be easily intimidated by other species therefore suitable tankmates are necessary. Adult female shows vivid coloration with red, black, green as dominant color. Adult male on the other hand, show brown coloration with marbled pattern on the body. # Diet: Live tubifex, artemia, daphnia and bloodworm. Pellets can be accepted when slowly adapted. # Suitable tank mates: Chocolate gourami, Boraras, peaceful rasboras, tetras and Corydoras.
