Mass truancy from school is tolerated in some ethnic and religious groups but not in others

The nationwide school strike yesterday revealed that the police in this country will allow some people to condone their children’s truancy. For most of us though, this is strictly forbidden and we will face fines for taking our children out of school for unauthorised absences.
