Dutch singer Corry Brokken was winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in its second year, 1957 with the song ’Net Als Toen’. Corry was Hollands first Eurovision winner. The Netherlands won als first place in 1959, 1969, 1975 and 2019. Nederlands: Corry Brokken was de eerste Nederlandse zangeres die het Eurovisie songfestival won in 1957. Cornelia Maria (Corry) Brokken (Breda, 3 december 1932 – Laren (Noord-Holland), 31 mei 2016) was een Nederlands zangeres, radio- en televisiepresentatrice en juriste (advocate en daarna rechter). Met een eerste plaats op het Eurovisiesongfestival van 1957 was ze de eerste Nederlandse die deze plek wist te bereiken. Ook won ze twee Edisons, in 1963 en in 1995. Corry Brokken debuteerde in 1952 op de Nederlandse radio met het liedje I Apologize. Twee jaar later bracht ze haar eerste plaat uit. In 1956 vertegenwoordigde ze Nederland voor de eerste keer op het Eurovisiesongfestival. Het lied Voorgoed Voorbij won niet (de uitslag van de stemming was in dat jaar geheim, alleen de winnaar werd bekendgemaakt). Een jaar later won ze het Eurovisiesongfestival met het lied Net als toen (een compositie van Willy van Hemert). Ook in 1958 vertegenwoordigde ze Nederland; met Heel de Wereld werd ze 9e (gedeeld laatste). In 1959 deed Brokken voor de vierde keer mee aan het Nationaal Songfestival maar deze editie kon ze niet winnen. Na het Songfestival-avontuur besloot Brokken zich even terug te trekken. With a first place in the Eurovision Song Contest of 1957, she was the first Dutch to reach this place. She also won two Edisons, in 1963 and 1995. Corry Brokken made her debut on Dutch radio in 1952 with the song ’I Apologize’. Two years later she released her first record. In 1956 she represented the Netherlands for the first time at the Eurovision Song Contest. The song ’Voorgoed Voorbij’ did not win (the result of the vote was secret that year, only the winner was announced). A year later she won the Eurovision Song Contest with the song ’Net Als Toen’ (a composition by Willy van Hemert). In 1958 she also represented the Netherlands; with ’Heel de Wereld’ she became 9th. In 1959 she took part in the National Song Contest for the fourth time, but she could not win this edition. After the Eurovision adventure, Brokken decided to withdraw for a while.
