Here are some common problems student face on this part of the exam: TOEFL Reading Common Problem 1: The clock Reading on the TOEFL isn’t quite like reading in your personal life, because the material is very different, and you have only a limited time. In fact, those are the two biggest problems in TOEFL reading: the clock and staying focused on boring reading topics. The clock is the most common problem. Many students reach the last reading passage with less than 20 minutes remaining. You have exactly 20 minutes for each text and set of questions (e.g. if there are three texts with three question sets, the time limit will be 60 minutes), so if you are a little too slow in the earlier texts, it can cause trouble near the end of the reading section.
