She speaks Alemannic, a dialect group spoken mainly in the southwest, which includes Swiss German dialects. We compare words in standard German and Alemannic and learn, among other things, how to greet each other in Alemannic, what “Grummbiere“ are, and why “Schmutz“ is not the same as “dirt“ in standard German. Finally, Cari takes the test: Can she understand an entire poem in Alemannic?
