Borah Bergman, Vision Festival 2010

Borah Bergman’s 2010 Vision Festival concert, his last concert in the USA. A visionary piano genius who was little known but highly respected, even revered, by “those who knew.“ (“I’ll never forget the time I met Borah Bergman, it was in an airport in Europe. He came to me, we shook hands as he said, ’God bless you, Cecil Taylor.’ And that left hand of his -- my God.“) Bergman had a revolutionary approach to playing piano, what he called the “upside-down piano“ because the most powerful sound of the piano -- and that which matched the human voice -- was in the bass clef. So he developed an approach in which his left hand became dominant, hence the “upside-down“ concept. Video shot and edited by Joe Chonto for Some Real Music.
