Norwegian Crusade Song - Sigurd the Crusader (Old Norse)

Here is a song I wrote and sang in Old Norse, number two of my “Sagas in Song“ series. The song commemorates the Norwegian hero King Sigurd the Crusader (Sigurðr Jórsalafari). The events relayed in the song are given in the Saga of Sigurd the Crusader, attributed to Snorri Sturluson. Sigurd wended his way from Norway down to England, whence he moved on to Iberia, and fought “heathen” (in the saga this word refers to Muslims) pirates and soldiers that were occupying the peninsular and the Balearic Islands. From there they go through Sicily and onwards to Acre and Jerusalem, where King Baldwin I of Jerusalem bids Sigurd assist on a military campaign to Sidon to recover lands for Christendom. He then fares to Constantinople, where he is received well by Emperor Alexios, before giving the Emperor his remaining positions and returning home to Norway over land. I hope you enjoy the song - let me know your favourite saga and I’ll see about making that into part of my “Sagas in Song“ series. If you’d like to see more, please consider subscribing!
