Charles Atlas The Illusion of Democracy at the new LUHRING AUGUSTINE BUSHWICK

James Kalm has been keeping tabs on the Bushwick neighborhood since 2003. Sensing the inevitable flow of the Williamsburg art scene east, he’s covered the developments and set backs of this area for nearly a decade. With the debut opening of the new Luhring Augustine Project Space, this district is beginning a new and potentially exciting chapter. The projections of Charles Atlas combine mathematical and diagrammatic images with art historical precedents to create moving vistas of floating numbers and grids. Vast scrims of colored light engulf viewers and render them as elements within these works.
