Horatio Parker: Scherzino No.3

Horatio Parker was an organist and prolific composer, and I am told he has quite a following in his home country, the United States! Parker studied with Rheinberger in Munich, and his compositional style reflects the German tradition –Mendelssohn, Brahms and Wagner. He wrote an immense amount of music for chorus and orchestra, and his beautiful oratorio Hora Novissima was very popular on both sides of the Pacific. It is unfortunate that such works and composers are forgotten. Parker also served as the Dean of Music at Yale University from 1904 until his death. This charming Scherzino was composed in 1910, in a set of 4 compositions. Performed on the 1934 Hill, Norman & Beard organ at St Stephen’s Uniting Church. This organ has just received a brand new console with an electronic sequencer, which is utilised in this video.
