GUM Department store, Moscow #GUM

One of the attractions by the Red Square is the 242m long building in Neo-Russian architectonic style, constructed at the end of the 19th century as a department store, which by then had become the fashion in many countries. GUM stands for ’Glavny Universalny Magazin’ (Main Department Store). It functioned as a consumer’s temple also in Soviet times, except for the years of Stalin’s rule, when it was used as space for offices. Today, privately owner, it should be called a ’Shopping Mall’, selling mostly luxury brands. Experience Russia with ETours Russia, Professional DMC & Tour Operator.
