Kempelen’s speaking machine

The ’speaking machine’ of Wolfgang von Kempelen (1734-1804) was the first fully functional and anatomically based speech synthesis ever. This is a renewed short presentation of the replica built at the department of Phonetics of Saarland University, Saarbrücken (Germany) by Fabian Brackhane with assistance by the Orgelbaumanufaktur Hugo Mayer and Dominik Bauer. We began in 2007 and did improvements and further developements until 2016.
