Boismortier’s ’Viele’

Joseph Bodin de Boismortier was a French composer and contemporary of J. S. Bach. While not all Boismortier’s duets are specifically written for the hurdy gurdy, many of his instrumental duets and trios work very well for baroque vielle. Indeed, Boismortier himself acknowledges the wide range of melody instruments that would be appropriate for his music, from flute and violin, to musette and hurdy gurdy. Performed live by Mary Vanhoozer, playing a baroque vielle built by Jacques Grandchamp.
