Tommy Trinder Introduces Jan Ralfini (1942)

Tommy Trinder introduces Jan Ralfini. Animated title showing Tommy Trinder sitting at a grand piano as commentator introduces Tommy and Jan Ralfini. Cuts to Tommy Trinder in boiler suit and flat cap, toying at piano. Jan Ralfini asks him if he is ’tuning the piano’. Trinder, affronted, says he is learning a new song - ’Pennsylvania Polka’ - and scat sings the melody (not very well). Ralfini offers to show him how it should be played by “The Quads of Swing“. Trinder leaves and Jan Ralfini & his Orchestra (violin, piano, drums and organ, with Jan on violin too) play ’Pennsylvania Polka’ with several C/Us of individual musicians as they play solos. Band also sing a chorus of the song. Interesting use of organ and strings in swing number. Trinder rejoins band at end of number claiming he still prefers it his way - cue for splurged chord on organ, shrug from Jan and grimace from Tommy, who then says “Taxi?!“.
