Gerald Finzi - Prelude for String Orchestra in F Minor: Op. 25

This is a beautiful, reflective piece by Gerald Finzi who, despite his surname’s Italian suggestions, was a quintessentially “English“ composer, very much of that school’s musical language. The images are my photos of Derbyshire’s Peak District in England, which I took at Christmas 2009. Great Longstone was my base and the landscapes here are mostly centred around that village. I included a shot of the Royal Oak pub in Chesterfield, which has connections with the Knights Templar. It’s good to see that Finzi’s work is enjoying something of a revival after he went out of fashion during the “atonal“ period ;) For more videos and other information about the Peak District please visit Let’s Stay Peak District at London Philharmonic Orchestra Conducted by Sir Adrian Boult
