How not to launch a hang glider at Marina Beach

We got lucky on our drive to NorCal for my birthday weekend and hit Marina Beach when it was soarable! It was less than ideal conditions as the wind was pretty cross from the south and a little light at first, but very doable on a Wills Wing Falcon 195. I’ve flown Marina in similar conditions and was a bit over-confident and under-committed to my first launch (terrible combination, oops), which landed me on the beach. I managed to get up on my second try and flew for an hour, not wanting to do that cross/downwind launch again. It was too cross for me to make it down the ridge but I had a good time flying with some local paragliders as no other hang gliders came out. Super fun day, always love flying Marina!
